Your wellbeing matters too
Choose the situation closest to yours. No names or personal stories are requested. You can listen and help connect your friend with support without becoming their counselor.
Withdrawal, changes in sleep or mood, or difficulty with everyday activities can be reasons to check in. They do not establish a diagnosis. Choose a calm, private moment and listen without pressure.
“You have seemed quieter lately. How have things been for you? I can listen.”
“You are overreacting.” Avoid labels, comparisons, and pushing for details.
Ask whether they would like help talking with a trusted adult or school counselor. If changes persist, worsen, or disrupt daily life, encourage professional support. Check in again later.
You can care about a friend and still need rest, boundaries, and support. Arrange a follow-up without promising to be available at all times.
